Book Clubs 2010

We will have two book clubs in the first half of 2010.  One will be a Crime Fiction Club and the other will be Contemporary Fiction Club, the fee is $199.00* for either club and they will go for five months each, involve five books and be facilitated by experts in their field – one of them is indeed an award winner!!!  The fee will cover the five books, a facilitated meeting once a month with some wine and finger food. There will be no more than 15 members in each club. We will start in mid(ish) February and details are:

Crime Fiction Book Club - facilitated by Kel Robertson a successful local crime writer who has shared the 2009 Ned Kelly Award with Peter Corris and has also won the Canberra Critics Circle Award.  (Go to www.kelrobertson.net.au for more information).  Kel intends to conduct an historical tour of crime fiction writing and will start the club off with “The Woman in White” by Wilkie Collins and then proceed through well known authors including, perhaps, Christie, Chandler and others.  To be held on every third Wednesday of the month starting February 2010.

Contemporary Fiction Book Club – facilitated by Deb Stevens, who has been involved with the book industry for over 30 years, has owned bookshops, run plenty of book clubs, provided professional advice to emerging authors and is currently the local representative for the Allen & Unwin group.  Deb has excellent knowledge of the new releases headed our way.  To be held every second Tuesday of the month starting in February 2010.

If you would like to join either book club contact us on 6247 4459 or email  books@smithsbooks.com.au and we will organise membership.

This would, of course, make an excellent Xmas Gift.

Some more details: *If you already have a particular book we will issue you with a credit.
We expect to start at 6.30pm and once the group meets than other issues can be sorted (like red or white wine??).
